MINISTER of Local Government and Regional Development, Sonia Parag, has strongly refuted allegations published by the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) in a press release dated May 6, 2025, describing the claims as “grave and defamatory” attacks against both her person and office.

The minister, in a statement, categorically denied any involvement, communication, or interference in matters before any magistrate or court, labelling APNU’s assertion that she contacted or directed a judicial officer as “entirely false, malicious and fabricated.”

She condemned the press release as a calculated attempt by APNU to smear her reputation and mislead the public, warning that such reckless action undermines the administration of justice.

As an attorney-at-law, the minister reaffirmed her unwavering respect for the separation of powers and the constitutional independence of the judiciary, calling any suggestion of judicial interference “deeply offensive” and wholly incompatible with her professional principles.

Minister Parag revealed that she is consulting with legal counsel and intends to pursue legal action against those responsible for the “libellous and injurious publication.”

She demanded an immediate retraction and a public apology, vowing to defend her name and reputation “vigorously and lawfully” against what she described as a deliberate attempt to malign her and the office she holds.
