–was wanted for over 30 armed robberies, multiple murders
THE body of wanted criminal, Kellon Fredericks, also known as ‘El Chapo’, was discovered early Wednesday morning in a remote area of the Onderneeming Sand Pit, on the Essequibo Coast.
According to police reports, ranks acting on information received proceeded to the area, also referred to as ‘Sweet Hole’, where they found the 23-year-old lying motionless in an open, vegetation-covered space around 06:18 hrs.
Fredericks, who had been on the run for a string of serious crimes across multiple regions, was clad in a long-sleeved grey jersey, damaged black jeans, and grey boxers.
A yellowish metal wristwatch was found near the body, along with a pair of grey rubber slippers, a black ski mask, and a bloodstained grey cap.
Initial examination of the body revealed a scorpion tattoo on his left chest, a gaping wound to the right side of his head, and suspected gunshot injuries to his upper back.
Blood was also observed on his face.
Approximately 30 feet south of the body, police found a blue, cream, and brown striped mattress surrounded by empty snack wrappers (including Big Foot, Tortilla Chips, Kiss Cake, and Caramel), a live 7.62x39mm round of ammunition, two cards of Panadol tablets, and several pieces of clothing.
Further south, about 10 feet away, additional pieces of clothing, sheets, more snack packs, and a small empty pot were recovered.
The scene was processed by crime scene investigators, and the body was subsequently escorted to the Suddie Hospital.
There, a Government Medical Officer pronounced Fredericks dead at 08:55hrs.
He was positively identified by his aunt, 38-year-old Carlene Fredericks, of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.
Fredericks and his twin brother, Kevin, were high-profile suspects in more than 30 armed robberies committed across Regions Two (Pomeroon-Supenaaam), Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), and Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) between 2023 and 2025.
The duo was also linked to the murders of a businessman and his employee in Bartica, as well as another businessman in Adventure, Essequibo Coast.
The body is now at the Suddie Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Earlier this month, Sharmalenie Neeranjan, a 34-year-old businesswoman, was charged and placed on $300,000 bail for harbouring the two wanted men.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding Fredericks’ death are ongoing.
