Sixteen matches to kick off Courts Optical Pee Wee Under-11 football tournament

SIXTEEN matches are carded on the opening day of the 11th Annual Courts Optical Pee Wee
Under-11 football tournament at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue today.

Thirty-two teams are battling for supremacy, including defending champions St. Pius Primary of
Georgetown.

Primary School teams from eight of the ten administrative regions will be competing in the
tournament sponsored by Unicomer Guyana Inc., parent company of Courts Guyana Ltd. and
organised by Petra Organisation.

St. Pius Primary will square off with St. Mary’s Primary in their opening encounter, but the
tournament’s opening game will be between Potaro Primary and Redeemer Primary at 11:00 hours.
There will be a march past and official opening ceremony starting at 10:00 hours where officials
of the Ministry of Education, Courts Optical, National Sports Commission and Petra
Organisation are expected to give remarks.

Teams will be divided into eight groups of four to compete in a round-robin format within each
group with the top 16 teams advancing to the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Sterling Products Limited has renewed its sponsorship of the tournament through its
Igloo Ice Cream brand.

Dellon Lynch, Marketing Manager, said Sterling Products was happy to be a sponsor of this year’s
tournament.

“We continue to offer our support because the tournament impacts positively on the lives of the
children and it helps to build camaraderie,” he added.

Public Relations Officer, Youlandra McCammon, and Co-Director of Petra Organisation also
gave remarks at the simple ceremony held Thursday at Sterling Products head office at
Providence.

The Tournament was approved by the Ministry of Education with sponsors MVP Sports,
Stena Drilling Inc. and the National Sports Commission. The tournament will run until November 2.
