GUYANA’S Golden Jaguars got off to a rocky start in their quest to climb the Concacaf Nations League ladder, suffering a 3-1 defeat to Suriname at the National Track and Field Facility.
Despite a spirited effort, Guyana’s defensive lapses and missed opportunities proved costly against a more clinical Suriname side. The visitors capitalised on their chances, scoring three goals while Guyana struggled to convert their own.
Suriname’s Djevencio van der Kust opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a powerful left-footed shot. Guyana responded with a penalty goal from Omari Glasgow, but Suriname regained the lead in the second half through Jaden Montnor and Virgil Misidjan.
The Golden Jaguars now face a tough challenge against Martinique in their next match, which will be played on September 9th. Guyana will need to improve their performance to have a chance of advancing in the tournament.
