IT was agony for young Fayyaz Hanif last Sunday when he fell via the run-out route for a well-played 99 when the Toronto & District Under-16 T20 tournament continued at Thackery Park.
Hanif, the son of former Guyana wicket-keeper/batsman, Azib Alli Hanif, clobbered two fours and 11 sixes from 68 balls as his team Superstars Colts reached 121 for seven in their allotted 20 overs, facing a challenging 129 for eight made by opponents Mississauga Ramblers.
The impressive 15-year-old Hanif completely dominated his side’s inning with no other player reaching double figures as wickets tumbled at regular intervals.
Bowling for Mississauga Ramblers, seamer Arham Aziz took three for seven from his four overs while Abdullah Parvez supported with two for 22 from three.
Earlier, skipper Dimitri Ramjatthan led the way for the eventual winners, hitting a top score 29, sharing in a vital 69-run opening stand with Assis Singh who contributed 28, while Abdullah Noor made 26. Leg-spinner Yash Patel claimed three wickets for 14 runs from three overs.
Superstar Colts will be back in action on June 9 at the same venue against Oakville Cricket Academy, while Mississauga Ramblers will clash with Vaughan Cricket Club the same day at the EG East facility, Etobicoke.
