WITH an aim of deepening trade and investment ties between Guyana and Brazil, a trade mission from Guyana is expected to travel to Brazil in the second quarter of this year.

This was outlined in an official joint communique released after bilateral engagements between President Dr Irfaan Ali and his Brazilian counterpart, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, on Thursday.

The communique highlighted that the two governments will work towards organising a mission from Guyana to Brazil which comprises officials of the government and business sector.

It added that this is with the aim of expanding trade and investment between the neighbouring states and this will take place in the second quarter of 2024.

As part of the discussions on Thursday, the two presidents underscored the continued relevance of the establishment of the road link between Guyana and Brazil. Both President Ali and President Lula reaffirmed their commitment to the development of a partnership between Guyana and Brazil to further enhance the prosperity of the two nations and strengthen regional integration.

Further, the two Heads of State agreed to undertake several options to enhance the existing partnership, including the revival of ministerial working groups and greater collaboration in agriculture and food security through sharing information and best practices along with enhanced collaboration between the research institutions and promoting investments.

Additionally, an agreement was made to advance the process of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which was signed in November 2020 for the technical and feasibility studies for the installation of fibre optic link between Guyana and Brazil.

They also agreed to the full implementation of the Guyana-Brazil International Road Transport agreement, and also encouraged the restoration of air connectivity between the two nations.
