IN a ground-breaking move aimed at transforming emergency services in Guyana, the Managing Director of the Sheriff Group of Companies, Ameir Ahmad, has announced the acquisition of a state-of-the-art Bell 429 rescue helicopter, valued at US $9.14 million.
In an exclusive interview with the Guyana Chronicle, Ahmad shared his motivation behind this significant investment, emphasising the commitment to enhancing emergency services, particularly in the hinterland regions of Guyana.
The Managing Director, who already oversees a diverse portfolio of equipment, expressed his realisation of the critical role helicopters play in providing timely assistance to individuals facing emergencies in remote areas.
“With our recent arrival of the Bell 505 chopper, I quickly realised the importance of this investment not only for me but also for the people who may have emergencies and cannot reach a designated hospital or medical facility in time.
This service will be provided across Guyana, but more specifically in areas in the interior,” Ahmad explained.
Anticipated to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2024, the Bell 429 helicopter is certified through the MSG-3 procedure, making it one of the most advanced models available.
Ahmad highlighted the cutting-edge technology embedded in the helicopter, emphasising its remarkable speed, range, payload capacity, and hover performance. The spacious cabin, featuring club seating, is designed for comfort and versatility, catering to a range of missions and equipped for offshore operations.
“We are dedicated to revolutionising the emergency services in Guyana, and we are committed to obtaining all the required approvals and certifications to fully utilise this asset. The acquisition of the Bell 429 helicopter represents a significant advancement for us and the people of Guyana,” Ahmad reiterated.
Meanwhile, Ahmad assured that the Bell 505 is ready and equipped to respond to medical emergencies while adhering to the highest safety standards. He highlighted the company’s commitment to providing services of the highest standards and the recent training completion of their experienced Guyanese pilot, Akeem Stoll, in Houston, Texas.
Ahmad concluded the interview by emphasising the Sheriff Group of Companies’ dedication to contributing to Guyana’s economic development across various sectors, including security services, health, and construction. The financing for the Bell 429 was secured directly through Bell/Textron, while the Bell 505 is financed through the US EXIM Bank.
“Guyana is our home, and we are proud and grateful to play a part in its development,” Ahmad concluded. The acquisition of the Bell 429 helicopter marks a significant milestone in the Sheriff Group of Companies’ ongoing efforts to positively impact emergency services and overall national progress.
