MINISTRY of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, on Saturday, led the distribution of solar panels to households in the Matarkai sub-district of Region One.
In Facebook posts, the ministry said this initiative is part of the government’s Hinterland Solar Electrification programme which aims to improve the quality of life for families in hinterland and riverine communities with inadequate access to electricity.
The minister while in Tassawini noted that the distribution of 45 solar panels is a tangible demonstration of the government’s devotion to distributing 30,000 solar panels to families in these communities.

Minister Croal said that it is an important aspect of providing equitable electricity access, as he urged residents to care the equipment given to them.
In the spirit of Christmas, the minister also presented toys to children, further fostering the joy and excitement of the festive season.
Subsequently some 55 panels were also distributed in Eyelash, 50 in Big Creek, 35 in Bamboo Landing, 35 in Five Star, 375 in Arakaka and 330 in Oronoque, all in time for Christmas.
The minister was accompanied by the Regional Chairman, Brentnol Ashley and Deputy Regional Executive Officer, Shem Cuffy.
On November 25, 2023, some 700 solar panel systems were distributed to households in Baramita, Region One. There, the housing minister emphasised the advantages of having the solar panels, highlighting their capacity to accelerate progress and uplift living standards within hinterland communities.
