UG, Plaisance and Pacesetters notch latest wins

IN the latest round of the One Guyana Basketball Premier League, which was played last Saturday at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue, University of Guyana (UG) Trojans and Plaisance Guardians celebrated their first victories of the competition, while Pacesetters maintained their good form in the Harpy Eagle Conference.

The Republic Bank Nets who clashed with the Trojans, initially showed signs of a fight, leading 19-14 in the first quarter. However, the Trojans eventually won 75-67.
Plaisance Guardians dominated the Black Caimans from the start, scoring 18 points in the first quarter while limiting their opponents to seven. This trend continued into the second quarter, with the Guardians amassing 36 points to the Caimans’ eight. The third quarter remained less eventful, with both teams scoring 11 points. In the end, Caimans couldn’t prevent the blowout, losing to Guardians secured 83-34.

The unbeaten Pacesetters bettered Guyana Defence Force (GDF) 47-31 in very low scoring encounter., Pacesetters led the match from the first quarter (17-13). Their strong performance continued in the second quarter scoring 18 points and limiting the army men to six. The third quarter saw both teams scoring 17 points.
The One Guyana Basketball Tournament is set to continue at the same venue this Saturday from 17:00hrs with another triple header.

The championship-winning team will receive a prize of $1 million, along with trophies, while the runners-up will be awarded $500,000 along with trophies. The successful execution of this tournament has been made possible through sponsorships from the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, G-Boats Guyana, the National Sports Commission, the Guyana Basketball Federation, and the Georgetown Basketball Federation.
