ALMOST 1,200 persons are currently being trained in the ongoing hybrid registered nursing programme, which was launched just two months ago.
This is according to Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony, during recent engagements where he said that this is part of the aggressive programmes being undertaken by the government to build the human resource capacity in the health sector.

He said that since introducing the programme, some 1,162 persons are currently undergoing the theoretical part of the registered nursing programme.
“By introducing this programme, we now have about 1,162 persons enrolled in the programme, and they are going to go through the theoretical programme Online,” Dr. Anthony said.
The Health Minister added that this is part of collaborations and partnerships with the Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) among other organisations.

At the time of the announcement, Dr. Anthony also said that even as they hope to build the capacity of human resources across the board in the health sector, several other training programmes will be launched soon.

He said that in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), for instance, they are hoping to launch a multi-laboratory technician programme, through which they are aiming to have about 35 persons enrolled in that region. Additionally, he said that a pharmacy assistant programme will also be launched in that region.

The hybrid programme, which will see persons undergoing theoretical training Online, and practical aspects at simulation centres across the country, was launched in June.
