A 22-year-old nurse and her 25-year-old husband were, on Monday, released on $1.5 million bail each for allegedly stealing $76.9 million worth of raw gold from the nurse’s uncle.
Anjali Singh-Mangal and Rohan Mangal, both of Delph Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with simple larceny.
The couple was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that between September 1, 2022 and July 19, 2023 at Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, they stole 208 ounces of raw gold valued at $76,960,000, property of Deepak Persaud.
The Guyana Chronicle was made to understand that the raw gold was left at the home of Anjali’s mother, who is Persaud’s sister.
The couple was granted bail in the sum of $1.5 million each. The case was adjourned until August 14, 2023, for a report on the status of the investigation. The husband and wife duo were represented by attorney-at-law Bernard DaSilva.
