MOTORCYCLIST Glenton Redmond was sentenced to three years behind bars for the fatal accident which claimed the life of a 14-year-old female student of Tucville Secondary School last year.

Redmond, 22, of ‘E’ Field, Sophia was on trial before Magistrate Rushelle Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court.

He had pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on April 10, 2022 at ‘E’ Field, Sophia, Georgetown, he rode his motorcycle in a dangerous manner in the public and caused the death of Makeida Quick.

He was also charged for not having a driver’s licence, and not being a holder of a certificate of insurance or fitness among other offences.

DEAD: Makeida Quick

Magistrate Liverpool found him guilty of all the charges, and sentenced him to a total of three years in prison. The matter was prosecuted by Police Sergeant Ramjattan.

According to a police report, the accident occurred at about 12:30hrs at ‘E’ Field Sophia.

The teen was on a pedal cycle when Redmond lost control of the motorcycle and collided with her.

As a result of the collision, the young girl was flung some distance into the air before falling into a nearby drain, while Redmon fell onto the road and lost consciousness.

Quick was picked up in an unconscious condition and pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

Meanwhile, a police investigation found that Redmon is not the holder of a provisional or driver’s licence, and he had borrowed the ‘bike’ without the owner’s permission.
