Dear Editor,
Since becoming Prime Minister of our beloved Guyana on August 2, 2020, Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, who loyally and dutifully served the Guyana Defence [Force] for 36 years, has done an outstanding job to help develop the country and improve the lives of the people.

Not only has he brought his military and administrative experience and skills to the Office of the Prime Minister, but he is also sharp, focused, and competent, and is an ardent supporter of President, Dr. Irfaan Ali’s policies, especially his “One Guyana” vision which has taken roots across the country.

Like President Dr. Ali, Brigadier Phillips is a strong advocate of peace and unity, and he strives on being the promoter of equality and fairness to all Guyanese near and far. He continues to push for a Guyana where all can benefit from resources including the huge oil revenues.

The Prime Minister has and continues to travel across the country to help solve the problems faced by residents in every region, and to promote the government’s policies so that everyone understands them and knows the direction the country is heading.

Delightful, happy, and hardworking, and known for his warm personality and compassion, the Prime Minister is at his best when meeting and greeting people, and regardless of race, ethnicity, and party affiliation, he has endeavored to treat everyone justly and impartially.

He has the ability and gift to make everyone feel comfortable and at ease while in his company. As a staunch believer in inclusiveness, Prime Minister Phillips is working tirelessly to build bridges and forge strong relationships to make sure that the youths, who comprise 65 per cent of the population, obtain a sound education and are involved in the decision-making process and the promotion of unity.

As a result, he is considered by many as the Prime Minister who could heal the racial divide in the country and unite the people.

The Honorable Prime Minister is well liked by his peers in government, in the army, the business community, interest groups, religious institutions, trade unions, and the public in general for his trustworthiness, honesty, and candidness.

His most recent and common mantra to the people is that his word is his bond and even though he is known for telling it as it is to any and every one, many, if not most, believe that his choice to be the Prime Ministerial candidate was perhaps one of the wisest political decisions made by the PPP/C.

This is also true of President Ali, who has and continues to exhibit leadership skills never seen before in the country.

Both Dr. Ali and Phillips have, in less than three years, taken Guyana to new heights of global recognition never seen before. Today, on the global scene, Guyana is respected not only by its CARICOM and Latin American neighbours, but also in the international community.

Locally, the country has been developing at such a rate that has resulted in a shortage of skilled labour, office spaces, machinery, and construction materials, including stones and white sand. Throughout the country, construction is booming in every city, region, and village.

Apart from his superb, excellent oral communication and leadership skills, and willingness to listen to other perspectives, Prime Minister Phillips’ love for the people and country is evident everywhere.

He has never made promises that he could not fulfill, and he has not shied away from his responsibilities, even the most difficult ones.

He is very active, reliable and is a problem solver who always wanted the best for the people. Known for his charisma and wit, the former Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force has gained the trust and confidence of the people across the country.

And although he is not a seasoned politician or a political expert, he does what is right and just for the people, just as he did for the men and women he led in the army. He is not a cynic, but a firm believer that all things are possible and can be achieved under normal circumstances.

The Prime Minister’s dedication to the country and his admiration and respect for the people has made him one of the most loved Prime Ministers of Guyana.
He is an inspirational and proactive Prime Minister who is not fearful but fearless, not selfish but selfless, not a pessimist but an optimist, not hopeless but hopeful, and a realist with the ability to strive and succeed against all odds.

In his nearly three years as Prime Minister, Brigadier Phillips has served the country and the people exceptionally well and we believe that he will continue to do so. Known for his professionalism, dedication and commitment and virtuous character, PM Phillips has managed the army with distinction, and we are proud to say that he has brough those qualities to the Office of the Prime Minister.
