RECOGNISING that many don’t get the chance to eat as they have to leave home early, Charity businessman Kumar Lallbacchan has decided to give breakfast to dozens of seniors who visit his establishment every month to collect their pension.
On Tuesday, 60 pensioners benefitted from this kind initiative.
Lallbacchan who owns Big Birds and Sons, told the Guyana Chronicle that his company started the initiative in 2022.
He said that his company usually facilitates pension payments for the Ministry of Human Services through the Western Union service it offers.
When asked what motivated this level of generosity, he explained that most of the pensioners have to travel from far-flung areas to access their pension payments and often times they are unable to eat breakfast.
As such, he said that he and his wife Hardai Lallbacchan decided to assist. Each pensioner is given breakfast which is already packaged and some cash.
“We are happy to do this. My family has been involved in humanitarian efforts and we like giving back. We are known for our charitable works,” Lallbacchan said.
Big Birds and Sons was established in 1997 and consists of a restaurant, a fishermen’s bar, a fishing complex, a supermarket and a hardware store.
One of the pensioners, Sumatra Persaud, thanked the businessman for looking out for the elders.
“It’s a monthly thing he does… God will bless him and his family,” Persaud said.
