GUYANA Defence Force (GDF) Corporal, Colin Hazel, was, on Tuesday, remanded to prison for the gruesome murder of Donalesa Park, whose lifeless body was recently found inside a garbage bag at Courtland Village Public Road, East Berbice.

Colin Hazel, 32, appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the capital offence, which alleged that between June 29 and June 30, 2022, at Courtland Village, he murdered Park.

Hazel will make his second court appearance on August 23, 2022 at the Albion Magistrate’s Court.

The Guyana Chronicle previously reported that the lifeless body of the 29-year-old mother of one was discovered stuffed inside a garbage bag opposite Hazel’s home.

Park was last seen alive on June 29, when she visited the man’s residence. She was also seen on a nearby CCTV camera exiting a car and entering Hazel’s home. Her umbrella was found inside his bedroom.

Park’s sister said she last saw her on June 29. She said the now-deceased woman left Fort Ordinance, Berbice to braid a client’s hair. However, she did not meet the client, as the person was not there when she arrived at the location.

Relatives became alarmed when Park failed to return home. A search was launched and a report was made to the police. The next morning, the family’s worst fear was confirmed when the young mother’s body was found.
