HAYLEY Matthews fell just one run short of a century while Shanika Bruce snatched four wickets which led Barbados to a big win over Windward Islands in the first match of the CG United Women’s Suer50 Cup on Thursday at the Providence Stadium..
Matthews demonstrated her immense class form the start of her innings and hit eight boundaries off 133 balls. With the landmark in sight she fell trapped in front to seamer Pearl Etienne she fell for 99 – with the score at 192-2 at the start of the 44thover.
Matthews added a record 177 for the first wicket with left-hander Kycia Knight, who made 72 off 108 balls before she fell caught at short mid-wicket off Jannillea Glasgow.
Kyshona Knight then struck three quick boundaries on her way to 27 not out off 35 balls, not out with her at the end of the Barbados innings was teenager Alisa Scantlebury on 10 not out as Barbados amassed 227-2 from their 50 overs.
The Windwards innings never got going as they plummeted to 9-6 in the eighth over7.5 overs. Shamilia Connell and Bruce tore into their top and middle order.

Bruce finished with figures of 9-2-48-4 and Connell 5-2-9-3.
