THE 2022 edition of the Milo Schools Under-18 Boys football tournament will feature a straight knock out format, according to organisers, the Petra Organisation.
The tournament, which resumes on June 18 at the Ministry of Education ground, has historically featured a round robin phase before the knockout segment.
At a Tuesday afternoon team and media briefing, it was outlined that seeding is based on the point standings after the 2020 edition which was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic
The tournament will still feature twenty-four teams and, according to co-director Troy Mendonca, the organisers had committed to continue the tournament.
He added that it is the body’s belief that players are eager to return to the field.
Marketing Manager for Nestle (Guyana), Rajinda Lall contended that they are more than happy to be back for another year.
Each team was given a special Milo-branded ball along with two other balls for training following Tuesday’s briefing.
The tournament caters to players born on or after January 1st, 2004, and are part of secondary schools in Georgetown and outlying areas that are registered with the Ministry of Education.
Saturday’s opening fixtures are expected to see St. Stanislaus College and St. John’s College battle from 12:30hrs, followed by three other fixtures.
Christianburg/Wismar Secondary are the defending champion after they defeated Lodge Secondary 1-0 in April 2019, while Annandale Secondary trounced President’s College 5-0 to finish third.
