MAGISTRATE Sunil Scarce, on Friday, released well-known photographer Keron Bruce on $100,000 bail after he denied being involved in a cyberbullying crime committed against local journalist, Leroy Smith.

Bruce, a 35-year-old resident of Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, appeared at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court.

Particulars of the charge alleged that Bruce, on January, 25, 2021, at his home, used a computer system to disseminate information about Smith knowing same to be false, to subject him to public ridicule, contempt, hatred, or embarrassment.

His attorney, Bernard DaSilva, made an application for reasonable bail.

After the granting of bail, the matter was adjourned until April 29, 2022.

In January, police had launched an investigation after Smith made a report of cybercrime harassment from individuals who were making publications on social media under the name ‘Mudwata.’

Smith had offered a $1 million reward to anyone who could identify the voice behind the animated cartoon.

Based on the information received, Bruce was arrested and several pieces of electronic equipment were allegedly seized from his home.

The police were also able to acquire some voice messages, which when analysed, allegedly matched the ‘Mutawata’ commentary.
