A TWENTY-SIX-year-old labourer was, on Wednesday, arraigned for the murder of overseas-based Guyanese, Lakan Chatterpaul called “Rickash”, who was fatally stabbed during a wedding celebration at Crabwood Creek, Region Six.
Eon Gonsalves called “Belly” appeared at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Alex Moore. Police are currently on the hunt for two persons who are said to be his accomplices.
Gonsalves of Crabwood Creek was remanded to prison until May 31, 2022.
According to a police report, Chatterpaul of Ohio, USA arrived in Guyana some three weeks ago to attend his brother’s wedding which occurred on March 6, 2022.
It is alleged that on March 9, 2022, around 01:00 hours during the ‘Kangan’ wedding celebration, Gonsalves along with two others stabbed Chatterpaul.
Enquiries revealed that the deceased and his relatives were the wedding celebration when three men approached the yard and were turned away by the family members.
Police said that the trio became annoyed, left the yard and went into the street a short distance away from the wedding and started to hit vehicles that were parked on the street.
Chatterpaul and other family members, police said, went onto the street where there was an altercation during which Chatterpaul was stabbed in the stomach.
He picked up from the ground where he had collapsed and taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.
