MAGISTRATE Leron Daly, on Friday, released former police constable Corinth Corbin on $75,000 bail after he denied shooting his former colleague in the leg during an argument over a pair of missing slippers.
Corbin, 22, of Silvertown, Wismar, Linden, was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
It is alleged that on January 31, 2021, at Brickdam, Georgetown, he discharged a loaded firearm at Constable Dewani Lampkin with the intent to maim, disfigure, disable, or cause grievous bodily harm.
He is scheduled to make his second court appearance on March 11, 2022.
According to reports, both Corbin and Lampkin were on duty at the Brickdam Police Station when they had an argument over a pair of missing slippers. The argument became physical and Lampkin assaulted Corbin.
Corbin allegedly pulled out his service weapon and shot Lampkin in the leg. Lampkin was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital and was treated for his gunshot injury.
Corbin was placed under open arrest and later transferred to the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) pending further investigation into the shooting.
He then went absent without official leave (AWOL) and was evading the police for months. However, earlier this week, he was arrested at his Slivertown home and charged.
