BY virtue of St. Vincent and the Grenadines relinquishing their hosting rights, and the Guyana Squash Association (GSA) being willing to be an alternative host, approval was granted by the Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) for the hosting of the Junior Championships in July.
Guyana had hosted the Junior CASA in 2017, when they came second to Barbados after holding the title for 12 consecutive years.
GSA Vice-President, David Fernandes, told media operatives, on Sunday, that they are elated to be hosting the event and are confident it was the right decision made by CASA given the increasing vaccination rates.

“What is great about it, is that for two years, the Juniors have not been able to play a Caribbean Championship, so we felt it was imperative for us to try and make the event a success for them”, Fernandes said.
He further revealed it will be the final year for Caribbean champions, Shomari Wiltshire and Abosaide Cadogan, and hosting will add greater emotions to their ‘swan song’ as Junior players.
The Championships are expected to be held no later than mid-July and are expected to be well represented with 150 competitors from in excess of seven countries.
He informed that the athletes, along with their families, would be fully vaccinated and there would be testing in an attempt to have a ‘bubble’ at the Georgetown Club Courts and the National Racquet Centre.
In 2019, GSA hosted the Senior Caribbean Championship, but since that year there has been no Caribbean event owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The GSA head is looking forward to continued support from the Private Sector and the Guyana Olympic Association for another successful hosting of the event.
