LOCAL service organisation, the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Guyana, is on an ambitious quest to become a household name here by yearend.
“I hope that the JCI becomes a household name; everyone should know it,” JCI Guyana President David Michael Seales told the Guyana Chronicle recently.

“All you have to do is show interest in the youth organisation by participating in projects and attending meetings,” he said, adding that after that, you’re good as in, but you first have to prove that you’re between the ages of 18 and 40.

Now up to eight Chapters in the wider Caribbean and over 100 internationally, Seales said the organisation, which first put down roots here back in 1964, is hoping that by the end of 2022, they will be well on their way to achieving their goal.

Already, he said, one chapter is currently in the making in Berbice, with another to soon follow in Linden.

With JCI Guyana’s theme for 2022 being ‘Providing selfless service for a changing world’, Seales said the mission is to provide the kind of development opportunities that young people need to empower them to create positive change.

Noting that the choice of theme is by no accident, Seales said: “The 2022 theme for JCI Guyana advocates to what members of this noble organisation have been practising over the years, which is providing selfless service,” in that what it’s seeking to do, in essence, is to further all humanitarian acts of members and non-members while adapting to the developments occurring around everyone in today’s society.

And, speaking of change, Seales said JCI Guyana has already been doing their bit to address the COVID-19 situation here by collaborating with government and private sector agencies, as well as other NGOs to distribute hampers as well as masks to those in need in vulnerable communities here.

In closing, Seales said that JCI Guyana is essentially about creating a space where like-minded youth organisations can come together to brainstorm, with a view to addressing the many pressing issues currently plaguing our society.
