AFTER almost four years on the run, Junior Allen, who’s accused of fatally stabbing a man at “Buxton Line Top”, East Coast Demerara, was on Thursday finally arraigned at the Cove and John Magistrates’ Court for the crime.

Allen, 36, of Plantation Profit, West Coast Berbice, was arraigned before Magistrate Alisha George, and not required to plead to the charge which alleges that on March 11, 2018, at Buxton, he unlawfully killed Leon Delph. He was remanded to prison until February 3, 2022.

The Guyana Chronicle had previously reported that the men had had a misunderstanding on Old Year’s Night, back in 2011, in the vicinity of Regent and Wellington Streets, whereby Delph had cuffed Allen in the face, rendering him unconscious.

The two would not meet again until the night of March 11, 2018 during a J’ouvert party in observance of Mashramani on the “Buxton line-top”.

According to reports, Allen walked up to Delph, and, touching him on the shoulder, asked if he remembered him; and before the Delph could respond, he whipped out a broken bottle and slashed his throat.

Allen, having committed the act, made a dash from the scene, but Delph tied his jersey around his neck and raced behind him, eventually catching up with him and inflicting on him several stabs with a broken bottle before falling to the ground.

He was rushed to the Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.  After being on the run all these years, Allen was finally arrested by the police on December 31, 2021 at the Plaisance Market.
