THE Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) on Tuesday destroyed $70M in cannabis at a narcotics operation at Victoria Backdam, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

According to the agency, on Tuesday, a team of CANU officers, acting on intelligence received, conducted a narcotics operation at Victoria Backdam, ECD where they discovered a camp located on one acre of land.

At the camp they discovered a quantity of male and female clothing, a total of 5,000 cannabis plants ranging from three to five feet in height and 15 salt bags containing processed cannabis, equivalent to 500kgs.

CANU noted that no one was seen or arrested during the operation. The cannabis plants along with the said salt bags of cannabis were destroyed. The street value of the 500kg which was destroyed is estimated to be G$70,000,000. Investigations are ongoing.
