Alleged ‘ganja’ trafficker remanded until Nov. 29

A 39-year-old man who was allegedly nabbed with $4.7million worth of cannabis in his car, was on Thursday remanded to prison for drug trafficking.

Duvendra Sukhdeo, of Republic Park, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on October 25, at Rahaman’s Park, Houston, EBD, he had 15.566 kilograms of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking, and was remanded to prison until November 29.

According to reports, acting on a tip-off on the day in question, ranks from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) intercepted Sukhdeo while he was driving in the vicinity of Rahaman’s Park, and during a search of his vehicle, they discovered eight bulky parcels of what looked like local and foreign ‘cannabis’ weighing 15.566 kilograms.

Sukhdeo was immediately arrested and taken to CANU headquarters, where he was later charged for the offence.
