Police Lance Corporal collapses, dies in house

A 44-year-old Lance Corporal, attached to the Springlands Police Station, collapsed and died at his home around 05:30hrs on Tuesday.
Dead is Albert Perreira of Reid Street, Sheet Anchor, Berbice.
The man’s wife told investigators that she was awakened by Perreira who was lying on the floor in the hall and having difficulty breathing.
As a result, she went for a glass of water to give him and when she returned she observed that he was motionless.
Police said that the woman immediately contacted the New Amsterdam Hospital for an ambulance but was unable to get one.
As such, she then contacted the police, who visited and observed the man lying in the hall motionless. The body was checked for marks of violence but none was seen.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor attached to the New Amsterdam Hospital. The body is currently at the Persaud Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy.
Meanwhile, divisional commander, Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan and his team visited the relatives of the late Lance Corporal.
The commander related to the man’s wife that he (Perreira) was always a jovial, hardworking and energetic individual and he will be missed by ranks of the Guyana Police Force and more so, by residents of Region Six whom he served.
