THE body of a security guard was on Saturday afternoon fished out from the Upper Pomeroon River in Region Two.
Dead is 60-year-old Bharrrat Atkinson of Abrams Creek, Upper Pomeroon River.
According to information reaching the Guyana Chronicle, it was Atkinson’s 14-year-old grandson who found his lifeless body floating next to his paddleboat.
The deceased lived with his reputed wife Radha Persaud, who last him on Friday when she left to visit her daughter in Georgetown. The deceased would normally have his meals at the home of another daughter whenever his wife was away.
The Guyana Chronicle was told that Atkinson did not show up for breakfast or lunch on Saturday and his relatives became worried.
Relatives sent his teenage grandson to make a check at his home. It was while checking the teen discovered Atkinson face down next to his paddleboat, which was moored at the stelling.
He raised an alarm and persons rushed to the scene. The police were later summoned and it was observed that fish had already begun to eat his hands. His body was later transported to the Charity Oscar Joseph Hospital where he was officially declared dead.
The body is at the Charity mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
