NORTH SOUND – A destructive spell from Akeem Jordan spurred Barbados Pride to their first win of the West Indies Super50 Cup, when they crushed Windward Islands Volcanoes by 173 runs, yesterday.
Jordan grabbed five for 26 from his allotted 10 overs to make him a shoo-in for the Player-of-the-Match award and lead the Pride’s successful defence of a target of 287 in their fourth match of the tournament played at Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.
Pride needed to win this match to stand any chance of reaching the semi-finals and a shot at playing for the title, and they delivered on all fronts.
Justin Greaves hit the top score of 76 and Shamarh Brooks made 61, paving the way for a Pride total of 286 for eight from their allocation of 50 overs, after they were put in to bat.

Jordan followed up with a disciplined spell to be the pick of the Pride’s bowlers, fellow pacer Chemar Holder supported with two for 27 from 7.4 overs and left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop snared two for 33 from 10 overs to complete the demolition.
Pride now have four points, moving up to fourth place in the standings ahead of home team Leeward Islands Hurricanes on a superior net run rate of +0.579.
Pride must still, however, beat Jamaica Scorpions in their fifth and final preliminary match tomorrow at the CCG to reach the semis.
