New music video out today!
POONAM Singh’s new “Happy Place” music video which releases today is unlike any of the songs that she’s written in the past. It is one, she says, that brings out the fun side of her personality and she couldn’t be happier that she decided to write and record it.
In an interview with the Buzz this week, Poonam shared a little about the song and where its inspiration came from; the skincare project that she’s currently working on, and the hard work that she often has to put in to make her singing career a success.
She recorded her new video in New York. “I just wanted to do something fun with my musical journey,” she expressed while noting that the lyrics were not inspired by her personal experiences. And so, “It’s all for the entertainment,” she said.

“I usually gather thoughts from others’ experiences and then I would write. I got the inspiration (for this song) from my cousin and someone he was dating back in the days. I wrote it a long time ago, and I decided to record it and release it now because I think it represents the fun side of me that I wanted to showcase.”
The music video exhibits some of the qualities of women and the different roles they play in a relationship. “I know a lot of men who love a woman that can cook and clean and all these kinds of things. It’s not a reflection of who I am and the things I would do, but it’s a fun song and I was really happy to get it done.”

This new song would be Poonam’s seventh, which includes collaborations she did with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, and Guyanese musician ‘Natural Black.’
“I am basically saying, ‘Come baby, come find your happy place with me.’ In the video, I am showing different versions of a woman, not specifically me, but any woman and the fact that we can do so many things,” Poonam explained.
In the video, Poonam has different looks including where she is all dressed up; when she is cleaning, singing, dancing, and so forth.
“I decided to switch things up a bit. As an entertainer, you want to be versatile and show diversity. I feel like I am from a country with so many people, different races, different colours, different beliefs, so I wanted to incorporate that in my music,” she said.
But Poonam acknowledged that at times, things can get rough and overwhelming on her as an artiste. “It’s hard as a Guyanese artiste. Nobody

knows the hard work you have to put in,” she expressed, adding, “It’s a lot of hard work and all of the money that I make, I put it back into music because you have to pay everyone and if you want your song to be internationally released, there’s a host of things that you’ll need to do.”
“We see a singer and think they’re doing well but no one knows how much they have to save up. A lot of people don’t recognise my work….and it [gets] to me. This year is not about me trying to prove myself, but about me trying to be a better person than I was yesterday,” Poonam continued.
Aside from her music, she is also working on an organic skincare company to produce a face mask, cleanser and moisturiser; all organic. “It’s stuff that I created on my own. I didn’t really like the shelf life of things that are not natural so I decided to come up with my own thing. I tried it on a few friends and it worked and I decided to take it up and get the chemist to do it properly for me, add some different ingredients to get it at its best.”
In another year or so, this project should become a success.
Poonam is encouraging her fans to follow her on her social media platforms including on Instagram, Tik Tok, YouTube, and Facebook.
