Dear Editor,
THE Guyana Relief Council (GRC) extends its best wishes for a new year filled with hope, happiness and peace for everyone. The GRC is a charitable non-governmental organisation which renders assistance to any person/family whose life becomes disrupted by any form of disaster – natural or man-made, wherever it occurs throughout the 10 regions of Guyana.
The GRC has been providing almost 100 per cent coverage for all fires occurring in the country and providing much-needed assistance to persons irrespective of colour, creed, religious backgrounds or political affiliation. During the period under review the GRC rendered assistance to fire victims from Regions Three and Four.
A total of six families were assisted, consisting of 30 persons. There were also welfare cases assisted during this period and are as follows (1) Wakapao residents were given assistance and this was facilitated by Mrs. Marlyn Matthews; (2) St. Cuthbert’s Mission (3); The Guyana Red Cross Society’s Children’s Convalescent Home; and (4) Ogle/Industry Senior Citizens Group.
Grappling already with limited resources, the council continued to provide essential assistance to persons/families whose lives were disrupted because of disaster. However, the GRC was unable to conduct any fund-raising activities for the year, the needs were fulfilled only by the ardent support and generosity of donors who stood by us and continue to do so in these most challenging and unprecedented times. These donors are The Guyana Relief Council of the USA; the Inner Wheel Club of Georgetown; Edward B.Beharry Group of Companies; Mr. Ron Ramnarayan of New York; Tesouro Resources; Mrs. Doris Lewis; the New Building Society; Dr. & Mrs. Omar Khan of Trinidad; Food For The Poor; Mrs. Thelma Tappin of Canada; the Guyana Rice Development Board; Mr. & Mrs. Geoff DaSilva of Canada; John Lewis Styles; Laparkan Trading (Guyana); Shoe Source; RUBIS; the National Milling Company; Ms. Punowtie Atmadeo and Sterling Products Limited.
We publicly acknowledge your commendable generosity. The council needs your help to continue this service to humanity. Your generosity enables the GRC to provide timely and relevant relief to persons who suffer disasters in Guyana.
Please send your donation of cash or kind to our office at Lot X West of Public Road, Riverview, Ruimveldt, Georgetown. We can also be reached by Telephone # 225-3081 or 225-2874 and email: guyanareliefcouncil@yahoo.com.
No donation is too small and will be accepted with much gratitude. The GRC’s office remains closed to facilitate leave for its small staff. Many blessings and a better 2021 is wished for all.
Yours sincerely,
Suparna Narine
Secretary
