RENALDO Caldeira is hoping to take part in this year’s Senior National Championship and he intends to win the Men’s Physique title.
The 24-year-old, who won the Men’s Physique division at last month’s Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GBBFF) Resilence competition, said that he has grown in confidence to compete at the highest level.
“This year when I compete at Seniors, my goal is to walk away from that show as the Mr Guyana Men’s Physique champion.”
Caldeira said that competing against some of the best in the country would be no easy task. In December, a number of big names, including multi-year Senior Mr Physique, Emerson Campbell, former champion, Yannick Grimes, 2019 national second-place finisher, Tariq Dakhil, and 2019 Mr Novices Physique, Delroy Phillips did not compete.
“In order for me to come out on top of all the competitors at Seniors, I’ll have to be more focused with my diet, more consistent with my training and a lot more emphasis needs to be placed in my weak areas.”

Caldeira said that he knows that defeating the more established competitors would be no easy task and that he is willing to put in the necessary work.
“I’ll have to come in very well-conditioned and my muscle maturity needs to be improved… and I’ll have to be in a good positive mindset over everything.”
The second-placed finisher at the 2018 Mr Novice Physique added that he had a lot of fun at the non-spectator competition in December. He said that despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the bodybuilding federation and main sponsor, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports ,excelled in their execution.
“That show was amazing, I had so much fun. It was by far the best show I have ever competed in, hands down. Everything was done right…athletes were treated good and were well taken care of, that made me feel comfortable at the show.”

Caldeira, who is originally from Skeldon, Berbice, said that he was also very grateful that he placed first at the show.
“I’m happy that the judges were pleased with the package I brought and my performance on stage.”
He said that he was also grateful to his coach, Mr Grimes, for his help and vision.
After excelling at the Senior Championships, Caldeira is hoping to represent Guyana at the Darcy Beckles Invitational Classic in Barbados and at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Championships.
