A number of locally contracted franchise players, along with potential Academy players, will undergo a fitness assessment today from 06:00hrs at the National Track and Field Centre (NTFC) at Leonora, West Coast Demerara.
The players will be supervised by the Guyana Cricket Board’s strength and conditioning coaches.
The assessment forms part of the team’s preparation ahead of the three practice games from which the Guyana Jaguars squad would be selected for the Cricket West Indies Regional Super50 tournament, set for next month.

Many of these cricketers have been training in the nets at their various home-based clubs and gyms, and some have even participated in minor T20 tournaments to help stay fit, so the assessment is cause for optimism for the local players who have not been able to get much competitive cricket since the outbreak of the corona virus pandemic.
It must be noted that the assessment of the potential academy players is essential, since Cricket Guyana Inc. intents to contract players for the 2021 regional season.
Additionally, the three practice games will be on January 8, 10, and 12, at the LBI Ground from 09:00hrs daily.
To this end, the two squads selected by Cricket Guyana Inc. would be led by batsmen, Shimron Hetmyer and Leon Johnson.
According to CGI, all players named in the two squads are required to participate in a fitness assessment.

Hetmyer’s team: Chandrapaul Hemraj, Raymond Perez, Kevlon Anderson, Shimron Hetmyer (Captain), Sherfane Rutherford, Akshaya Persaud, Kemol Savory, Bhaskar Yadram, Kevin Sinclair, Demitri Cameron, Keon Joseph, Clinton Pestano, Anthony Adams, Vishaul Singh, Mavindra Dindyal, Steven Sankar, Sachin Singh and Ricardo Adams.
Johnson’s team: Trevon Griffith, Tevin Imlach, Leon Johnson (Captain), Jonathan Foo, Christopher Barnwell, Assad Fudadin, Anthony Bramble, Quinton Sampson, Gudakesh Motie, Ramaal Lewis, Nial Smith, Ronaldo Alimohamed, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Devendra Bishoo, Andre Stoll, Totaram Bishun, Richie Looknauth and Kelvin Umroa.
Romario Shepherd, Veerasammy Permaul and Raymon Reifer will be on West Indies duties, while Keemo Paul will be otherwise engaged in cricket duties, CGI noted.
