PRESIDENT Irfaan Ali in his ongoing effort to bring relief to families during the COVID-19 pandemic, distributed hampers to dozens of elderly persons from the Mahaica, East Coast Demerara area on Saturday.
The President presented the elderly with food supplies which are expected to help them throughout the holiday season. In total, 50 hampers were distributed, a release from the President’s office noted.
The President had journeyed to Unity, Mahaica, to take part in a toy-distribution exercise at a Christmas event, which was organised by businessman Chris Persaud.
“To our elderly, of course you have contributed significantly to our country. You are also a great asset of our country. And I am very pleased to be here and share with you also and to assure you that we will continue to work hard to make your lives better,” the President was quoted as saying.
President Ali emphasised that improving healthcare will be at the forefront of the government’s agenda. He also used the opportunity to extend well wishes to all gathered on behalf of the Government of Guyana and his family.
