Driver flees after crashing into pedestrian in Parika

A PEDESTRIAN was killed Friday night after a speeding car crashed into a median on the Hydronie Public Road at Parika, East bank Essequibo (EBE), where the victim was standing.
Dead is Kayum Alie of Bushy Park Squatting Area, EBE. Police said that the accident occurred about 21:55h and they are on the hunt for the driver who fled the scene.

Police investigations revealed that the car was proceeding south along the western driveway at a fast rate of speed, when the driver lost control and collided with the pedestrian, who was standing by the median waiting to cross the road.

Upon impact, the car turned turtle and then collided with a nearby shop, which is situated on the western side of the carriageway.
As a result of the collision, the pedestrian received injuries about his head and body; the driver then exited the car and made good his escape on foot.
The pedestrian was then picked up by the police and taken to the Leonora Diagnostic Centre, where he was pronounced dead.

The body is currently at the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour Mortuary awaiting autopsy.
The car is, reportedly, owned by Sheldon Holder of Doctor Charles Scheme, East Bank Demerara and is currently lodged at the Leonora police station.
