POLICE are on the hunt for four bandits who reportedly shot and killed a 53-year-old businessman in his Public Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara house in the wee hours of Monday during a robbery.
Dead is Terrence Dickie. Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that Dickie lived with his 42-year-old wife– a businesswoman– his daughter and his 18-year-old nephew.
According to the police, the nephew said he was awaken 30 minutes past midnight by two of the suspects who pointed a gun to his chest and forced him to his uncle’s room.
It is alleged that the bandits instructed him to tell Dickie to open his bedroom door; the businessman opened the door and he was confronted by the armed men.
It is further alleged that a scuffle ensued between the bandits and the victim, during which they shot him to the chest. Dickie collapsed and the bandits then demanded money from his wife; they also proceeded to ransack the rooms and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash through a door on the western side of the house.
The victim was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation by his wife and daughter. There, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police, who processed the scene, revealed that the suspects entered the house from the lower flat through a northern window. Investigations are ongoing.
