SEASONED tennis player, Andre Lopes, registered back-to-back victories over the weekend to serve off the Guyana Tennis Association (GTA)-organised ITF-sponsored Safe Tennis Tournament at the Le Ressouvenir Tennis Court on the East Coast of Demerara.

Although rain hampered the event on both days, it did not dent the determination of Lopes, who got past Donnie Anderson 6-4, 6-1 in the opener on Saturday, before he eased past Wayne Baker on Sunday, 6-0, 6-2.

Ronald Murray, who opened his campaign on Saturday with a 6-0, 6-2 win against Harvey Stoll, went down to Hemraj Resaul yesterday.

In the other match on Saturday, Philbert Clarke registered a win over Javed Khan.

Meanwhile, Viraj Sharma came from behind to beat Kevin Matai 1-6, 6-4 (10-8) on Sunday afternoon.

Some 21 persons are battling in the male-only competition.
