A 23-year-old man was killed Saturday morning in a hit-and-run accident outside his Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara home after celebrating his birthday.
Dead is Devanand Bansie, a vendor of Lot 27 Mon Repos Railway and Embankment, ECD.
Police said the accident occurred sometime between 02:00h and 04:00h Saturday morning on the Mon Repos Railway and Embankment.
Reports indicate that Bansie had celebrated his 23rd birthday on Friday, and returned home around 02:00 hours, however, he met his door locked and could not gain entry.
It is unclear what transpired, but police said at about 04:00h, he was found lying motionless on the southern side of Railway and Embankment, just in front of his residence, and from all appearances, he had been severely injured.
When the paramedics arrived on the scene, after being summoned, they examined Bansie was determined that he was already dead.
The body was subsequently picked up and taken to the Lyken Funeral Parlour where it is awaiting an autopsy as investigations continue.
