GBTI to host two-week virtual summer camp

IN view of the COVID-19 restrictions, the Guyana Bank for Trade & Industry Limited (GBTI) will be hosting its Early Savers Summer Camp online.

The bank stated in a release that, this year, the programme will be held in collaboration with Leadership League’s “Kids in Business.” It will run from August 10 for two weeks.
The Summer Camp is open to children eight to 15 years old who currently have Early Saver’s Accounts at GBTI and participation will be on a first-come basis for 15 Early Savers Club members.

The bank noted: “However, we also aim to share this opportunity with five non-Account Holders who have an interest in developing their business- leadership skills. GBTI realises that parents nationwide are balancing work and hold the primary responsibility of ensuring that their children are both educated, entertained and engaged during these times. This is notwithstanding the need to keep children at home and safe from the coronavirus, which essentially means that physical summer camps are not an option. It therefore goes without saying that parents nationwide could benefit from some assistance in the area of education and entertainment for their children this summer.”

According to Leadership League founder, Ashmin John, the Leadership League was developed to “stimulate, sustain and support the entrepreneurial spirit in youths and young adults.”

Thus far, the Kids in Business programme has reached over 40 students. It helps children to develop an improved work ethic, a greater appreciation for money, and an increase in their creative- thinking skills, people skills and goal-setting skills.
