Five new COVID cases recorded in the Rupununi

Five new cases of the Coronavirus have been recorded in the Rupununi carrying the total number of cases in the region to 11.

There are 9 active recorded cases of the pandemic in the region.

While the Ministry of Public Health noted in its daily update on Tuesday that 8 new cases have been recorded in Guyana over the last 24 hour period, reports from the Rupununi are that the new cases have been recorded at the South Central District of the region following 109 tests which were undertaken recently.The cases are said to be from the  villages of Sand Creek, Potarinau and Quiko.

Persons at the Lethem reported that  persons continue to cross the border across to Brazil at an area aback the village of Baitoon  to get to and from the neighbouring state.

Regional Health Officer Dr Naail Uthman in an update to officials in the region, noted that  efforts will be made to carry the affected persons to Lethem to be placed in quarantine.
