A 25-year-old teacher of Culvert City, Lethem, died at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) on Saturday night from complications attributed to the Coronavirus.
Dead is Donna Ambrose Greaves, a mother of one.
Reports are that the woman was admitted to the Lethem Regional Hospital on June 25th, 2020 after she complained of chest pains , weakness and other ailments.She was admitted to the ward and an initial COVID-19 test gave negative results.
However, she displayed shortness of breath and other symptoms of the virus including high fever and on June 27th she was air-dashed to the city.
A second test was done and this time, she tested positive for the disease.She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the GPHC during this time, as her condition worsened.
Thus far, five cases of the coronavirus have been reported in Region Nine, all of which are said to be imported cases from neighbouring Brazil.
Reports are that more than a dozen medical staff of the Lethem hospital, who handled Ambrose’ admission, were also tested for COVID-19 and were placed on quarantine.Some have received their test results which indicated that they do not have the virus.
Guyana has so far recorded 272 cases of the pandemic.On Saturday, the Ministry of Public Health reported that there were 16 new cases, carrying the total number of active cases to 135.
