THE prime suspect in the murder of gold miner, David James, who was beaten to death at a mining camp at Arrangay Backlands, Cuyuni River has been arrested by police.
The 20-year-old suspect of Ogle Old Road, East Coast Demerara, was nabbed on Thursday, May 28 by police after being on the run for a few days. The Guyana Chronicle had reported that on Tuesday night, James’ battered body was found in a hammock at the mining camp at Arrangay backlands.
The Guyana Chronicle understands that James was killed around 18:30hrs by the 20-year-old suspect. According to reports, on the day in question, James and another man were drinking at the camp when an argument ensued between them. During the argument, the man left James and returned with the suspect who then dealt James several cuffs to his face and body. Consequently, James fell to the ground and became motionless.
The police were summoned and upon arrival, found James motionless in a hammock. The other man was arrested while the prime suspect escaped, but was two days later arrested and is in custody at the Aranka Police Station.
