A MINING accident at Partang backlands, Upper Mazaruni River, has left a 57-year-old miner hospitalised with burns to 55 per cent of his body.
Rodwell Allen, called ‘ba bai’ of Mocha-Arcadia, East Bank Demerara, is said to be in a stable condition.
The Guyana Chronicle understands that on May 21, 2020 , at approximately 15:30hrs Allen, along with others, was working on a six-inch land dredge in the said backlands. Allen, it was reported, went to the river bank to switch off the engine.
However, while he was holding the throttle on the engine, the hose for the radiator slipped out, causing hot water from the radiator to splash on him. He was rushed to the Imbaimadai Health Outpost where he was seen and examined by a doctor who determined his injuries second-degree burns about 55 per cent of his body. His condition is said to be stable.
