THE suspect in a fatal hit-and-run accident on Brickdam, last Saturday, has turned himself in to the police.
Police are now investigating the accident which resulted in the death of 61-year-old Vibert Tyrell, of 381 Apple Drive, North East La Penitence, Georgetown. The accident occurred on Saturday, about 20:00hrs, at the intersection of Brickdam and Chalmers Place, Georgetown, involving motor Vehicle # PXX 3934, driven by a 38- year-old resident of South Vryheid’s Lust, ECD and Tyrell. According to a police release, enquiries disclosed that the vehicle was proceeding east along the northern carriageway of Brickdam while the pedal cyclist was proceeding south along Chalmers Place. The pedal cyclist reportedly rode from north to south into the path of the vehicle and a collision occurred.
As a result of the impact, Tyrell sustained severe injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene. A post mortem examination was conducted on Tuesday and the cause of his death was given as multiple injuries. The driver who fled the scene, turned himself in at the Alberttown Police Station, on March 22, in the company of his attorney, and is currently in custody assisting with the investigation.
