Electrician killed in hit and run on Corentyne road

THE police are investigating a suspected hit on run which occurred at approximately 22:55hrs on Saturday on the Letter Kenny Public Road which resulted in the death of a 25-year-old man.

Dead is Shawn Smith, an electrician of Lot 17 Fingal Street, Rose Hall Town.
According to information received, the man left his hometown to drop a friend home at Letter Kenny Village on his motorcycle bearing registration number CK 2517.
His unconscious body with injuries to his face and other parts of his body was picked up by the police, who were on a mobile patrol, and taken to the Port Mourant Hospital where he succumbed while receiving medical attention.

At the young man’s home, a number of family members gathered as they tried to comfort his grieving parents.

His mother, Bobby Smith, barely mustered the courage to say she cannot believe her son had died. “They hit him down and leave him there, how could they do that?” she said in tears.

He was described as a caring, funny and hardworking person who was well known in the town.
The police investigation is ongoing as they seek to apprehend the perpetrator.
