AS elections preparations heat up in Guyana, the coalition Government held a rally in the capital of Georgetown, urging citizens to cast their ballots for the Coalition.
Mayor of the City of Georgetown, Pandit Ubraj Narine, urged residents of Albouystown to go out and vote, while noting that there will be no IMCs (Interim Management Committees) to run NDCs and communities as was the trend in the previous administration.
Mayor Narine also noted that he believed that the Government had a vision for young people and will be ensuring that they will have an integral role in the Government.
Speaking also at Thursday’s rally was Rear Admiral Gary Best who was Chief of Staff of the Army from 2007-2013. He told those present that Guyana was much safer under the coalition Government than it was under the People’s Progressive Party/ Civic ( PPP/C) during the crime spree era .
Best noted that Guyana’s literacy rate was much improved since the coalition Government came into power.
Best made reference to the President‘s vision of a decade of development for the nation.
He revealed that the decade of development plan spoken of by President David Granger included a Cop on every street ensuring the safety of citizens and a Doctor on every corner ensuring the health of every citizen.
Meanwhile, Chairman of The Georgetown District of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) and Minster of Public Health, Volda Lawrence, who was not scheduled to speak, told those gathered that the Government wanted to build a state of the art Community Centre in the community for young people to develop their skills in the area of sports.
Minister of Public Service Tabitha Sarabo Halley made the point that the Government was a caring Government.
Minister Halley spoke to the point that the Government will continue to place emphasis on developing young people, while pointing to the fact that young people must not find themselves risking their lives for quick money which is acquired through the drug trade, an occurrence in the previous administration.
Halley alluded to the fact that things will not change overnight but will take a while.
