MAGISTRATE Annette Singh, on Thursday, January 9, 2020, granted $50,000 bail to a 17-year-old boy accused of attempting to rape a 61-year-old woman.
The teen appeared at the Juvenile court of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and denied the charge, when it was read to him.
It is alleged that, on October 29, 2019, at Kuru Kuru Linden- Soesdyke Highway, he assaulted a woman with the intent to rape her.
According to information, on the day in question, at around 05:00 hours, the elderly woman left her home to attend church and was waiting for transportation. The teenager allegedly approached her, grabbed her neck, and ‘beat’ on her, while trying to remove her clothing. The elderly woman and the teenager fought for a few minutes after which he made good his escape, after a car was coming in their direction.
The car stopped and persons assisted the woman before chasing after the teen. He was caught and taken to the station.
Magistrate Annette Singh released the teen on $50,000 bail and adjourned the matter until January 23, 2020.
