Undercover cop, female among bandits busted in Tuschen robbery

An undercover policeman allegedly drove a getaway car from the scene of a robbery at Tuschen , East Bank Essequibo on Friday night.

While the police have noted that a member of the joint services was among a trio which was nabbed following the robbery , reports are that one of the men, who hails from East Ruimveldt in the city, is a member of the Guyana Police Force.

Mark Prince,a 42-year old who has had numerous brushes with the law and who was among six men who attempted to rob a Supply,East Bank Demerara businessman last year, was shot dead by a licensed firearm holder who responded to the robbery which occurred around 21:00hrs on Friday night.

Police said Guang Hong Wang, a female Chinese national who is the proprietor of 5 Star Restaurant located at 695 Tuschen New Housing Scheme, EBE was attacked and robbed by the gang on Friday night as she attempted to sell a case of beers.

Police investigations revealed that Wang and her husband operate the restaurant which is situated on the lower flat of the the premises .While a  customer was being attended to, one the male suspects and the female accomplice entered the restaurant and purchased two beers which they consumed after which they ordered a case of beer.

Wang was in the process of delivering same when the male whipped out a gun and proceeded to rob her and the other victim along with the three other suspects who entered at the same time.
A licensed holder of a handgun who lives nearby heard the commotion and immediately went to investigate and was attacked by Prince and another with a cutlass.The man was forced to discharge several rounds in their direction after which the suspects fled the premises in motor car PTT 8606 that was parked nearby.

The wounded Prince was left at the scene while the woman disappeared.The fleeing bandits were subsequently nabbed at a roadblock which was set-up in front of the Den Amstel Police Station.

Shaquille Wilburg, a 23-year old Buxton mechanic who was last February sentenced to four years for armed robbery, was found in the backseat with a gunshot wound.A 2-year old of Herstelling was identified as the third accomplice in the car.

Last February, city Magistrate Annette Singh told Wilburg,”Crime is only going to take you so far. It is either death or prison” and she encouraged him to rehabilitate himself as she sentenced him to a four-year prison term for robbing a businessman on Brickdam of $3.3M in October 2017.

Wilburg is now warded at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation under police guard nursing gunshot injuries.
