THE brother of 58-year-old Harry Persaud Prashad, who was found tied to a post and his left foot hacked off, is questioning why and who would want to hurt his brother in such a horrific manner.
Hemchand Persaud told the Guyana Chronicle he last saw his brother three weeks ago when he mentioned he was living at and taking care of the now defunct SunSplash Hotel and Resort, located at the Number 63 Beach. He said his brother told him he was doing well and he is being taken care of.
The man said he is now the only remaining sibling for the family and would like closure and justice for his brother whom he said did not deserve such a tragic death. Hemchand noted he does not know anything about his brother’s boss, a Canadian citizen and owner of the hotel where Vivekanand Narpatty’s badly decomposed body was found on Friday.
Persaud added that his brother would speak of him as a great man who was very fond of ‘calypso’ music and often spoke of his dream of moving back to Guyana, living at his beach-front property. Persaud, who had become physically challenged after suffering an injury at his work as a cane harvester over thirty years ago, is now wondering how he will be able to bury his brother. His wife, who was close by, told him not to worry as she will try to fulfil the man’s last rites.
The bodies of two men, including Prashad’s, were discovered at around 11:25hrs after a family friend went to the Lot 110 Number 63 Village property to check on the Canada-based Guyanese who came for a vacation on December 19th. The bodies of the elderly men were discovered on the second flat in the Balcony area. The body of Narpatty was found with two toes from his left foot severed while Prashad was found tied to a post with his hands tied behind his back and his right foot also tied to the post; his left foot from the ankle down was severed. Meanwhile, in an invited comment, Commander of ‘B’ Division, Calvin Brutus, said investigations into the murder is ongoing and number of Investigating officers were still conducting interviews within the communities. So far, a motive for the deaths has not been established. A number of documents were also found scattered inside the premises while other parts of the house were ransacked.
