SENIOR Magistrate Leron Daly on Friday October 25, 2019, sentenced a man to three years’ imprisonment for inflicting bodily harm.
Paul Johnson appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
Particulars of the charge stated that, on September 20, 2019, at Durban Backlands, he inflicted grievous bodily harm on Chandraka Thakaran.
Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh told the court that Johnson and Thakaran were known to each since they both worked at the same construction site.
He added that, on the day in question, around 14:30 hours, at the construction site, they had a misunderstanding and Johnson went away. He later returned, armed with a cutlass, and dealt Thakaran several chops about his body and made good his escape.
The matter was reported and Johnson was arrested and later charged.
Magistrate Daly, after listening to the prosecutor, sentenced Johnson to three years’ imprisonment.
