Man sentenced for assaulting and threatening witness.

ON Friday October 25, 2019, Senior Magistrate Leron Daly, sentenced a man to six weeks’ imprisonment for assaulting and threatening a woman.
Carlton Bourne appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to the two charges when they were read to him.

Particulars of the first charge stated that, on October 15, 2019, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, Bourne unlawfully assaulted Sherryann Persaud.
The second charge stated that, on the same day and at the same place, Bourne used threatening language toward the said Sherryann Persaud.

Christopher Morris told the court that Bourne who is a prisoner was in court six before Magistrate Bess awaiting trial. Persaud was standing next to Bourne, and, as the orderly ‘raised’ the court, Bourne spat on Persaud and threatened to kill her.

The court also heard that Persaud was a victim in one of the robbery charges against Bourne.
Magistrate Daly, after listening to the information provided, sentenced Bourne to serve six weeks in prison.
